The Free Merchants are an NPC faction established at least in 0.D (Danny) to become a backbone of possible NPC relations.

Their faction revolves mostly around trade and caravan security, as they are always willing to trade at Refugee Centers and most of their available jobs are sending party members to guard caravans. While not the most lucrative faction to work for, newer characters will find their quests easier than the other factions, normally fetch quests or killing a bandit. The easiest faction in the game currently to build reputation up with, although it is unknown if you can build it up enough to access the basement of Refugee Centers.

After a few quests for their side, they give you a quest to help start up a new safe haven for refugees. This is arguably one of the best quest lines in the game, as it creates new NPC's and new traders, while netting a ridiculously high cash flow. All you have to do is fetch a small booklet from a randomly spawned Ranch and help the two NPC's build it up by gathering 200 two by four's, 25 blankets (Not down-filled blankets), and 2500 nails.

Missions

Following this quest line allows you access the following NPCs at the Ranch.

  • Scavenger Boss, has 1000 cash that doesn't respawn, trade inventory does respawn, the boss gives Missions, and acts like a trader.
  • a Lumberjack, gives a mission to gather 10 logs for 1000 cash.
  • The Nurse, can heal wounds for 200 cash for 30 minutes of healing, or 500 cash for 1 hour of healing, healing acts like sleep would, as a respawning inventory with misc meat, fat, spices, water, and 1000 cash that doesn't respawn. The nurse can also give out further quests.
  • Doctor, can remove or add CBM's for several thousands of cash, 5000-12000 at least.
  • Crop Master, he can create a small plot of land where you can hire workers to plant and harvest crops. Doing it by hand is much better though. Also provides missions.
  • Bartender has 1000 cash, and can sell drinks in two options a trade menu, and in a list for what's on tap. The tap is bugged sadly, as it only gives out beerVerify (is it? is it fixed? for which version is it bugged?)
