Fungal blooms are actually the location of two entities: the fungal spire and fungal wall.
Fungal spires constantly spew out spores and thereby spawn fungaloids in the area and - if applicable - fungal zombies and fungal insects. All of them can infect you with a nasty fungal parasite.
If the fungal spire is destroyed, spawns of fungaloids in the area will become depleted eventually.
Marloss berries can be found in fungal blooms.
As of 0.E (Ellison), fungal blooms also spawn marloss zealots and Mycus mutated NPCS. These Mycus NPCs are quite affable, can be talked with, and will give you a marloss berry should you wish to follow the Marloss path. These monsters are neutral, but will attack you if you provoke them.
