A cave is a rocky outcrop on the surface that leads to a small underground area. Here you can fight with a bear or two, or a wolf, for food. A cave might also be a hermit cave, in which case it will contain a corpse and some rare items.
With a one-third chance, any cave might turn into a rat cave on generation. In this case, it will have a second level and will be filled with sewer rats and a boss.
The underground part of caves can be often overridden by sewers or subway that happen to intersect it. In these cases, the downslope will likely end abruptly in a sheer drop, offering you the opportunity to jump, glide, or rappel down, depending on the assets available to you.
