Hi. If that's still correct (I am inquiring about what's downloaded the most on cataclysmdda.org), then I suggest that, after 0.F comes out, on pages based on 0.F but with changes in the experimental version, we start using an adapted version of this template from the NetHack wiki. If the page is about something only in the experimental version, then use the existing :template:Ver system to indicate as much. -Actual-nh (talk) 21:01, 17 March 2021 (MDT)

Item Rarity

My pleasure, but I was wondering how do you find the rarity of an item? - RiftNinja

Mind if I intervene and say that this is probably an outdated piece of data? Some of the items have it (I looked it up), but most aren't and are fine. Anyway, you could look into json files if you really want to add the rarities. Greattuna (talk) 13:45, 18 June 2015 (PDT)
I think item rarity is relative. iirc the way items are distributed is using 'drop' lists. Each location and spawn has its own lists. So while shorts are common on the normal Z's they are a rare drop in a bathroom, and never drop on a migo. (By example, not actual game data). Do some items have an item rarity then? --Soyweiser (talk) 00:23, 19 June 2015 (PDT)
Few of them, actually, but I don't see the game using it. Items are in groups, and drops are generated based on that. Probability of dropping from the group is written in the item_groups json, drops from the monster in monster_drops, and loot from building is set on mapgen json. So, no use for rarity. RMCC question

The answer is Lizard for the RMCC security question. Took some forum trawling to figure that out. I think I'm just down the the 2nd jpeg now (not Antlers).

And thanks for the welcome.

Ow thanks a lot! Still no idea waht it is about, prob a reference to some forum member. --Soyweiser (talk) 04:40, 3 July 2015 (PDT)

reloaded & original ammo decision

So, as I'm going through the books (now I'm also adding craft item links) I'm running into the reloaded ammo which has brought up an issue. The original ammo pages list the crafting recipes but can't be crafted. The reloaded ammo have no pages in the wiki. They are nearly identical, but some of the damage stats differ between the two ammo types. I can redirect all the reloaded pages to the original ammo (e.g. 10mm auto & reloaded 10mm auto) and ignore the slight differences in stats, or, create new pages for the reloaded ammo and move the crafting recipes to the proper pages....or, alternatively combine the two onto one page, noting the discrepancies in stats. Thoughts or preferences? No rush on an answer, I'll be sticking with ID work for now, but I'm identifying future things to work on as I run into them. My inclination is to make the new pages but it'll be a lot more work. Turn478 (talk) 06:42, 18 July 2015 (PDT)

Guide: How To Compile is marked for deletion

Is it okay to edit that guide? I am asking this because the notice has been there for days and without any actual activity or discussion on the topic of deletion. I agree that the guide is outdated and COMPILE.md has better information but the section on changing the font is good as many new players don't know that, especially the ones on Windows. --Hexman (talk) 15:31, 3 October 2016 (UTC)

It is okey to edit the page, yes. I wanted to delete it because the forums had better guides that people actually used and looked at. Wiki's are not good for this kind of information if nobody stands up as a 'champion' to keep the guide working and correct. A bad outdated guide to get the stuff compiling which doesn't work at all is way worse than no guide. And we already have the forums, and the github information. Which makes a 'how to compile' guide on the wiki redundant, and easily outdated. At least a year ago Coolthulhu did some work on it and removed all the redundant guides. My preferred method of creating a 'wiki' guide is to point towards to forums or github. NOT to repeat it again on the wiki, without anybody keeping an eye on it. (There are only so many hours people can work on projects like this, you don't want to spend time on keeping 4 locations up to date when you could simply add referrals to better pages. Sorry for the late reply btw. --Soyweiser (talk) 08:32, 7 November 2017 (MST)

Add "The First Day" guide to front page

Thanks to the effort by Rayv, the First Day guide is fairly up-to-date with the latest experimentals. I think adding it to the frontpage for easier access to new players would be a good idea. Thoughts? Hexman (talk) 09:13, 30 November 2017 (MST)

Have not read it extensively myself. But seems like a good idea. --Soyweiser (talk) 11:13, 30 November 2017 (MST)

Flu Shot is now different and Gamma Globulin Shot increases health.

Is there any chance you could change the Flu Shot and Gamma Globulin Shot to separate pages? The Gamma Globulin Shot is the one that increases health now, and the Flu Shot merely prevents the Flu.

Like this? Flu shot Gamma globulin shot? Thanks for pointing it out --Soyweiser (talk) 14:08, 2 March 2018 (MST)

Spam things

I added the recent captcha related spam phrases and some of those sites to the spam prevention list today, I am not sure how the bots will be reacting to it. --DanmakuDan (talk) 15:38, 31 August 2018 (MDT)

Good work, it was getting a bit spammy. --Soyweiser (talk) 04:17, 1 September 2018 (MDT)

Re: Metabolic Rehydration

You're right; currently it is not categorized correctly as a Mouse mutation. That should be fixed in a PR that should get in soon, so I went ahead and added it onto the page.

Personal notes

List of item/object templates (this really needs to be condensed down to 1 general template I think, this is hard to maintain):

Mass Grave page needs symbol

I added the Mass Grave page to the wiki quite some time ago, but I still don't know how to add the correct symbol to the info section, it's a capital X in yellow...

Fixed --Soyweiser (talk) 14:34, 22 August 2019 (UTC)

Should seasons get their own pages?

Seasons change up the gameplay a lot, it's only reasonable if we consider how to add overviews, tips, plants that grow, and other info. -Mrstickman1997

Sounds like a good idea. Go for it I would say. I should run the script which generates the foraging information table again for the underbrush page, which is one of the things which changes gameplay a bit. --Soyweiser (talk) 07:38, 22 April 2020 (MDT)

Jerimee Comments

Thanks for your note. If yall need help maintaining this wiki, I'm semi-experience with mediawiki and have a decade of web dev skills I could pitch in. I thought about reaching out to DanmakuDan but I didn't see them on the discord and didn't even know if that was the right person.

Good to be in touch.

--Jerimee (talk) 09:18, 2 May 2020 (MDT)

Thanks for adding a description to that spoilore template I added. I should have done that myself so you didn't have to do guesswork. Thanks again.

I repaid the favor by adding a usage note to Template:Vitaminstoname - it is in the noinclude section so shouldn't actually impact the template output (but now as I'm writing this I'm realizing that maybe these templates are overwritten automatically... apologies in advance if my minor change gets in the way)

--Jerimee (talk) 12:32, 19 September 2020 (MDT)

That is a good edit, and I should have included it on the other automatically generated pages. Time to fix some things (And this is also why it helps to read each others edits and things, I overlooked that for ages, and I have 4 scripts which add stuff like that). --Soyweiser (talk) 04:11, 21 September 2020 (MDT)

Do you have any experience with autumn?

The furthest I have managed to survive season-wise is summer, I may be able to add some info on winter too as many scenarios start in winter so I do know how that season works, but autumn is very unfamiliar to me for now, I don't yet know when I'll reach it, but I will still try. In the meantime I asked you because you might have some knowledge of autumn, being the admin and all. --User:Mrstickman1997

I'm not an admin, I just have a bit more editing rights, danmakudan is the admin. But apart from that, sorry, no, I also don't have that much exp with autumn, mostly when I reach that phase I fizzle out, or some update breaks something or I die, so I don't know sadly. --Soyweiser (talk) 11:10, 10 May 2020 (MDT)
Just thought of a different thing, there are prob others who do have experience with autumn and winter who could help. Ask on reddit/the forums/discord/irc/etc for tips on it. --Soyweiser (talk) 06:14, 11 May 2020 (MDT)

Name of Towns should be changed.

I already made the page a bit more specific on what they really are, but I would like to know how to change the page name to something more fitting: either "Towns and cities" or just "City" (given that is what they are known as in-game in the options. And while I'm here, about the cannibal trait, sorry about what I said about it being boring, I find it fun too, but I meant when NPCS are disabled, it is obviously boring what with just the corpses, especially given that they rot like you said.

You need to move the page, I don't think you are able to do that as a regular user. I'll look into it. And don't worry about it, you just hit me in the virtual cannibal pride :) (It is weird I always pick that option, guess I can't deal with meat going to waste or something, damn virtual hoarding tendencies). -Soyweiser (talk) 16:36, 23 June 2020 (MDT)
Moved the page, and updated a few pages, added some redircts, in the todo there is still a reference to a template referring to the town/s page I still ahve to look into that. Ow no nevermind that is just about the specific locations page, I misread the todo.
Now I need to figure out what to do with Category:Towns, leave it? Or change all the categories to the towns and cities thing? Seems a bit of useless work.
You don't need to change the category, I just felt the main page of towns and cities needed to be changed to be ready for more info the more I research on them, I'm aiming to change it to a more informative description of cities however I can. Same with the Wilderness, check my new description of that too... -Mrstickman1997
I saw your change of the wilderness, good work. --Soyweiser (talk) 08:55, 25 June 2020 (MDT)

How did you add redirects?

I've been looking how to but I haven't found how to add proper redirects like when you added "City" and "Cities" to link to the Towns and cities page, but I still can't find how. I just felt like I needed to add a redirect of "Countryside" to Wilderness and "Village" to Towns and cities, just so people have more words to search that lead to what they're looking for. -Mrstickman1997

#redirect Towns and cities
(I had to go to the cities page to find this, when you get redirected it says 'redirect from page X' at the top, you can click that to go to the actual page you typed. Try it. (I also have to do this every time myself as I keep forgetting the correct way to use the 'redirect' command, stupid pound/number sign). --Soyweiser (talk) 18:56, 30 June 2020 (MDT)

Spam blocked benign content

I'm trying to create Piglet/doc with the following:

* Piglets can be tamed by feeding them cattle fodder, like most domestic animals.
* If a piglet grows up to an adult pig without being tamed, it is permanently feral and cannot be tamed.

...but the site is throwing an error stating "Error: This action has been automatically identified as harmful, and therefore disallowed. If you believe your action was constructive, please inform an administrator of what you were trying to do. A brief description of the abuse rule which your action matched is: Possibly more spam", which is plainly absurd. Shouldn't the spam-blocker be blocking creation of external links rather than the creation of new pages? --JT` (talk) 21:52, 2 July 2020 (MDT)

Looks like it resolved itself; I was able to create the page just a moment ago. But the filter is still far too sensitive. =) --JT` (talk) 21:55, 2 July 2020 (MDT)
Looking at that specific filter it seems a little bit too aggressive and it blocked legit edits from 2 other people in the past before. (Without going into details, the filter should never bother you again). I'm going to see if I can fix it. --Soyweiser (talk) 06:18, 3 July 2020 (MDT)
I think I fixed it, thanks for reporting, I'll keep an eye out on that filter to see what/ and if it blocks things in the future --Soyweiser (talk) 06:24, 3 July 2020 (MDT)

It's quite sad really...

So many people have created accounts here just to make spam pages, it's getting out of hand, it feels as if me, you and only a few far and between other users are adding anything relevant to this wiki, we have yet ANOTHER spam page and account here today... --Mrstickman1997

Most of the accounts don't even try to make spam pages, it is weird. But that is what spammers do, not much anybody can do about it. Otoh, look at all we have accomplished with a few disorganized editors, it is impressive really. --Soyweiser (talk) 01:23, 11 July 2020 (MDT)

Word of warning concerning mutations for clearing city.

I am not going to add mouse to the list myself because the IOS version is still 0.C Cooper, I've not had time to squeeze in any time on the experimental due to lockdown... I know absolutely nothing about Mouse, so you may want to add it in to how you can judge it's combat capabilities when I've added more of them, I bet you can only guess what I consider the ultimate city clearer. (-; The good news is I've returned to work, so in the free time between my projects I can squeeze in a bit of research. The bad news is I don't know when or if another lockdown will happen, so I'm leaving Mouse to focus on what mutations are with me regardless of version... -Mrstickman1997

Should there be a page or at least a category for "boss monsters"?

You see, there are a LOT of monsters that fit the criteria of being bosses in the game; having red text displayed on their names symbolising their deadliness (though not all red text monsters I could consider bosses like the zombie master), their high health, high damage, and the fact that they sometimes need quite a lot of time, resources and special strategies to kill successfully. --Mrstickman1997

Several questions

While updating the flu shot page for the experimental (to be 0.F), several questions came up.

Thanks! —Cimanyd0 12:14, 1 December 2020 (MST)

Move Template:Comestibles/whatever to own category?

I'm trying to organize the templates category a bit better, partially to help in finding templates to learn from. I've created a Category of Templates/Comestibles. I can alter the current pages if you'll change (I can do a pull request if you like) the script so that it won't be overwritten. Thanks! -Actual-nh (talk) 20:12, 23 December 2020 (MST)

Versioning

From Talk:Main Page:

The wiki should reflect the most recent experimental release. There simply isn't enough time people put into the wiki to keep different versions up to date. And esp at the moment the latest stable release is several years ago. It was 0.C (Cooper). The best way to go about this is to tag stuff you write with the version you wrote it for. For this I created the templates template:Ver, which you can use to tag an entire page as being of a certain version. And the template: template:inlineVer, which you can use during text to properly refer to a version. I even created methods to refer to the latest 0.D (Danny) (*).
(*):This refered to, at the time of writing, to "The experimental version". While the code already said 0.D which is (was) not out yet. The inlineVer template (and the ver template) makes updating to a new version easy. As I made it so that referring to the version that isn't out yet, automatically gets translated to 'The experimental version' so that when there is a release, not all the references to 'the experimental' need to be updated to (for example) 0.D, and only the two templates need to be updated. So use those templates. --Soyweiser (talk) 14:43, 7 November 2017 (MST)
To update this information in 2020. It seems the experimentals now are pretty experimental. So we probably should work on keeping the wiki mostly up to date with the stables and note where an update is specifically for the experimentals. Esp as the containers are now changing atm. Ideally we would have a dwarf fortress like versioning system, but we don't have the wikiediting manpower to keep this up to date. --Soyweiser (talk) 05:11, 12 May 2020 (MDT)

Hi. If that's still correct (I am inquiring about what's downloaded the most on cataclysmdda.org), then I suggest that, after 0.F comes out:

 • On pages based on 0.F but with changes in the experimental version, we start using an adapted version of this template from the NetHack wiki.
 • If, on the other hand, the page is about something only in the experimental version, then use the existing template:Ver system to indicate as much.
