Solar panels are bugged in the {{ver|0.6}} version of Cataclysm. All panels on a vehicle charge only if the vehicle's center tile (the first tile placed) is in sunlight. If there is a roof over this tile, it will obstruct the panels. In addition, solar panels only charge if the weather is "sunny". These bugs were fixed in {{ver|0.7}}.
As of {{inlineVer|0.C}} Solar panels only function for currently loaded (to memory) vehicles. A vehicle is loaded when it enters the [[reality bubble]] (typically within your view distance on a regular day) and unloaded when the game is saved (including quick/autosave).
