(That first line didn't accomplish anything, it's noise and should be cut. In fact, I recommend cutting the next line too and starting with "The world as you know it is gone" since that grabs you right away. I have worked as a professional editor.)
(Changed description and flavour text to match the one found in the main site. Changed layout a bit, moved the actually informative parts to the top, and rewrote and expanded most of that area. Created quote template and used it for flavour text.)

The world as you knew it is gone. A ruined world stands in its place, full of nightmares come to life. Nothing can ever go back to the way it was, before the Cataclysm, but you have to be strong. You have to survive. You have to persevere. If you don't, death will be one of the better outcomes.

Above your head, storm clouds gather, and the rain stings and hisses against your skin. You shoulder your backpack, and start walking. The world has gone to hell, but you get the sinking feeling that there are darker days ahead.
Surviving is difficult: you have been thrown, ill-equipped, into a landscape now riddled with monstrosities of which flesh eating zombies are neither the strangest nor the deadliest.

Humanity is dying. Terrible creatures, zombies and worse, have begun to fill the space they left behind. You have survived the initial cataclysm and now you must survive with what little skills and talents you have. Your first order of business is to find tools and weapons. But be quick about it, the zombies are approaching, you can hear them in the distance.
Yet with care and a little luck, many things are possible. You may try to eke out an existence in the forests silently executing threats and providing sustenance with your longbow. You can ride into town in a jerry-rigged vehicle, all guns blazing, to settle matters in a fug of smoke from your molotovs. You could take a more measured approach and construct an impregnable fortress, surrounded by traps to protect you from the horrors without. The longer you survive, the more skilled and adapted you will get and the better equipped and armed to deal with the threats you are presented with.
Then you need to decide what to do next. You can flit from house to house in the neighborhood, hoping to not run into any trouble. You can hit up a library, and read some books to increase your skills. If you are lucky, you may know of a compound nearby where survivors are gathering. If not, you may want to start hiking. But remember, zombies aren't the only things out there. Just be sure to bring provisions.

Also remember to keep your spirits up! If you don't you will never survive. Without good spirits you won't have the gumption to learn or do anything productive at all! After all, what is the point in existing in such a saddened state?
In the course of your ordeal there will be opportunities and temptations to improve or change your very nature. There are tales of survivors fitted with extraordinary cybernetics giving great power and stories too of gravely mutated survivors who, warped by their ingestion of exotic substances or radiation, now more closely resemble insects, birds or fish than their original form.

But if you can survive you will become inured to the hardships, and may find exciting things such as bionics, which can give you amazing powers not usually seen in mortal hands. Or if you are really lucky, you may find a radioactive site, decide to chance fate, and gain a mutation. Usually bad, but sometimes very very good. Who knows, the choice is yours.

You emerge from the shelter into the dim light of an overcast day, and look around for the first time since the disaster.

The world as you knew it is gone and in it's place, a twisted mockery of all that was once familiar.

Everything was cast aside in that frantic race for the shelter. You have no food, nothing to drink, no weapons. Nothing but your ingenuity and the fierce determination to survive against appalling odds.

A grim prospect faces you. Perhaps worse even than the nightmares of last night, when you were tortured by dreams of the dead themselves rising to jealously tear life from the living.

You cast your eyes up the road and begin to walk towards a house in the far distance. Things may be bad right now, but you've got a sinking feeling that there are darker days ahead.
