Once this item is activated, it quietly calls out "Merged!!", and the fuse runs as does a typical grenade. However, it has a range of random effects that can occur inside its blast radius. (In stable 0.A, the radii are closer to that of a mininuke than a grenade, so be careful! This is scheduled to be reduced in the experimentals.) The random effect is announced by the game when the grenade explodes: the announcement window will read "REVERTS!!", "BUFFS!!", "NERFS!!", or "BUGFIXES!!", and the explosion color will change based on which effect occurs.
"REVERTS!!" (purple explosion) appears to reset your health to maximum, set your hunger and thirst to default values, and remove all mood modifiers, both positive and negative.
"BUFFS!!" (green explosion) appears to add several points to each of your stats, and these changes are lasting (subject to mutations, bionics, or further Granades). Granade effects do not time out.
"NERFS!!" (red explosion) appears to damage every body part quite severely, and lowers your stats (subject to mutations, bionics, or further Granades). It does not appear that any body part's health can be reduced to 0 from a "NERFS!!" Granade. Granade effects do not time out.
"BUGFIXES!!" (blue/teal explosion) kills all insect type monsters. It might potentially remove "none" objects from your inventory.
The blast radius is very large (only the mininuke has a bigger radius). And this is a dangerous item that could quickly ruin your game. Use with caution.
