The wiki always needs work, this page is an attempt to create a centralized todo list. There are several things which basically always need done. And others need done only once. If you are working on something, feel free to append your name to an issue. If you fixed the problem, use <s> 'todoitem' </s> to mark the issue as done, don't just remove the issue as then we don't know what was done. Well archive the list of done issues later.

Recurring todo items

  • Look at the Category:Unknown_version pages, try to figure out for which version the page is, and update the {{ver}} template with the correct version. Or update the whole page to the most recent version, rewrite what you can. The main idea is to keep the wiki as updated as possible with the most recent experimental, but also to make keeping the wiki updated in the future relatively hassle free. So feel free to tag old pages with {{delete}}, remove information, or rewrite stuff. Just try to add the current experimental version using the template:ver template when you do.
  • Pick a guide from the Category:Guides, see if it is still up to date, and if it isn't update it, and tag it for the correct version using the template:ver template.
  • Fix one of the stub pages that needs more information Category:Stub.
  • Fix one of the pages that needs more information Category:Verify.
  • Look at the Special:SpecialPages and fix double redirects, broken redirects, pages that are orphaned (check if they are still needed/exist in the current version of the game, orphaned pages are not linked anywhere on the wiki).
  • While it can help, it usually is a bad idea to make item pages for items that don't exist yet. Unless the items are very important. Due to the high list of items in the game, it is usually better to use a program to automatically update/create any missing pages, which doesn't exist yet, feel free to bother Soyweiser to create a script for this. If you add a new item page, don't bother with writing down the statistics of the item, bother with how you can use it, where you can find it (if rare) and other special information about it. Stuff that can't be easily understood from the item description basically.
  • Same goes for monster/bionic/etc pages btw. A lot of information can easily be automatically generated.
  • If there is a page without a {{ver}}, update that page with either the correct version, or 'unknown' if you don't know.
  • Look at the Special:RecentChanges page, check if there was no vandalism, and check new additions by other users.

Not recurring todo items

  • Start making this list - Soy
  • Add the Helping with the wiki info to this page. - Soy - Done, also made that page include the 'recurring' part.
  • Links to old versions of the game on Download are dead. (they point to the old .com url, not the new .org url) - Soy - removed all the dead links, and added back in links to the github source tags.
  • Make a template that can be used to tag information as 'needs to be checked' something like {{verify}}. Make it automatically add pages to a 'needs verification' category.
  • The template Template:Comestibles is a bit ugly, it doesn't fill the table space correctly, and it doesn't scale well on mobile devices, should be updated.
  • Create the following important pages (they are currently empty):
  • Make a wiki style guide, with a list of best practices, some small details of fixes (like the mutations/bionics that have similar names, or the fact we call the '2x4' a two by four on the wiki)
    • Also add some common templates like the key one, the version ones, template:delete etc.
    • Mention the wiki is mostly kept up to date with the latest experimental versions.
    • Mention how the 'what links here' page works. Tell people to update links to old pages if they move information around.
    • Write for the future. Don't write things like 'this has now been changed' write things like 'in {{inlineVer|0.C}} this was updated to ...'. Now is only now for a short while, in the future, the past is forever.
    • Distinguish between errors in the wiki and errors in the game, particularly for typos, spelling errors, and grammatical errors. Category:CDDA Corrections Needed is for errors in the game.
  • Make a 'welcome to the wiki' template, which links to this page and the style guide so we can get new editors up to speed quicker. (Also, add a 'please no vanity projects' warning to it, there are way too many unfinished projects on the wiki, we don't need another '300 page 'how to play the game' guide where half the stuff is just empty 'todo' statements').
  • Update the Tentacle Bracing page with the information from this reddit post. -Fox
  • Update the infrared mutations/cbms with information from this post, or alternatively, make a infravision game mechanics and include it on those pages (or link it, if mucking about with <noinclude>s is to much trouble).
  • Add the f1 details screen to the martial arts page. Ideally with an example screenshot. (the what??)
  • Make the various version pages like 0.C (Cooper) link to previous versions. (some sort of <-- 0.B and 0.D --> links at the top of the page). Drack820 (Did it to all version pages).
  • Add links to old downloads to the version pages like : 0.C (Cooper). - downloads no longer available.
  • Add keybinds image to wiki - Soy (I still have this in a file somewhere, somebody made it ages ago, never got around it).
  • The date of the cataclysm was changed from 204X, 2040-2049 to 'sometime during the present day, in an alternate reality'. Search for and fix references to the old 204X. (But leave it intact on the old C:DDA Design Outline - 2013 that page is just kept for historical perspectives and shouldn't be edited.
  • Fix the links on the C:DDA Design Outline - 2013 so they point to the new forum. fixed by kevin.
  • After the links above are fixed, protect the page so it can't be edited. done, give me a shout if this is a bad idea. Soy
  • Updated various common templates with documentation. A lot of templates have no documentation, and reading the mediawiki scripts for the correct information is cruel and unusual punishment.
  • Make a list of various game mechanics, check which ones need information, which ones are missing etc, add them to a gamemechanics category, or even a central game mechanics page which explains them in small detail and links to the bigger mechanics page.
    • example: evolve (no information on how this works, some pages link to it)

    • some page on the vitamin system. (There currently already is a page called vitamin which links to multivatimins, and there are links to Hidden_stats#Vitamins, so a disambig nation will have to be added to that, lets see if we can pick a non confusing name). A page was made. Will just link to multivatimins on the vitamins page, and changed the redirect to vitamins.
    • Butcher and dissection, how the new system works. Soy - Added butcher page, using the excellent instructions provided by AFoxInAviators
  • Add 'game mechanics' and 'statistics' categories to the various stats and hidden stats pages so they can be found easier. - Soy - Done.
  • Make some sort of central list of hidden statistics (Use the stats page). Ideally make a navbar, just like the status effects/diseases have.
  • Hidden stats page has a lot of stats that simply are not explained, while they should be. (some of them are simply internal values for the games bookkeeping and not really relevant (they might no longer exist even).
  • Make the Community page. Include a list of all the various C:DDA communities (if big enough), some important YT'ers etc (Include a: no selfpromotion warning), some big forks, important external tools etc.
  • Update the mods page, create a list of the base game mods, and give a description of what they do, and any non obvious issues they might have. (Don't feel threatened by the mod template, Just bother User:Soyweiser to add the new mods).
    • User:PositronicGirl finished updating the mods, categories for in-repo mods still need to be updated, cleaning up the categories for mainlined mods (like foldable parts or boats) and other stuff that was removed. Should we still keep stuff like Arcana?
  • (this might require code diving or testing) check how Alcohol Metabolism and drunken master interact. reddit topic.
  • Automate the creation of this page Vending_machine_cheat_sheet and finish the data in it.
  • Create a nice picture of how the Refugee center looks on the map.
  • Add the new Evac shelter layout variants.
  • Locations#Overmap_legend Is an outdated mess, as are the various categories of the various locations, there are a lot of various categories for locations such as Category:towns, Category:wilderness which don't really make sense, and various locations are not in the correct category list. So, todo:
    • Fix Locations#Overmap_legend (note this links to both towns and wilderness).
    • Make a list of all the possible location categories. (towns, wilderness, etc)
    • Add a general Category:location category, and tag all the various locations with this, and add the other categories to taste. (there also is a Category:Map Tiles not sure what to do atm, as locations and map tiles are subtly different).
    • Or, just ignore the last two options, and roll all the categories into one 'locations' one and remove the others. (Soy: Something I wouldn't prefer, as the wilderness/town distinction is relevant).
    • Create a new system where it doesn't just talk about singular map tiles (like now) but also mentions the larger premade structures, like the Refugee center (which differs from something like a lab because labs are just randomly generated, while the center is created as one big block).
  • As lua is no longer supported, check if there are no references to LUA on the wiki, if there are, add a warning about the removal of the LUA support. - Removed references and added delete notice to lua page.
  • Check the main menu on the main page and the Template:Navbox/main template. They probably don't match, and they should.
  • Seems some martial arts have been changed see this pr (a reddit post about it), the mutation is easily removed, but the style is probably referenced all over the place, so we should do a good search for it on the various martial art pages, and the guide pages. - Moved to their own mod page
  • Updated references to diseases and template:diseases to, effects and template:effects resp. The old page was renamed. After this is done, add template:delete to both disease pages so they can be cleaned up later. Also check, disease, and the disease category. (use, 'what links here') - Soy, done.
  • Turns are now 1 second, compared to 6 before, this means that almost all references to turns and time now need to be checked. No idea how to do that properly. looked into it think I got most of the references. - Soy
  • Boats was mainlined, the references need to be changed, also update Template:Mod.
  • Template:Book is one of the few templates which was never updated when somebody made the new template system, like for example Template:Clothes, somebody should fix that.
  • Minor annoyance, but the link to the stable/experimental part of the item/bionics/monster templates doesn't always line out well, there needs to be a div or something around it so it keeps them on one line. But I couldn't fix it.
  • Cow has a nice description of how the cow works, but that prob should be generalized and made into something which is included on all cattle pages, and should be added (if it sin't already) on the farming page etc.
  • A minor thing for admins, but update the abuse rules so that trusted users don't trigger the anti spam protections.
  • The spoiler template doesn't allow links (they show up) and is very mobile unfriendly (which makes selecting text annoying) should be fixed into being clickable.
  • Crafting this page is horribly outdated, and needs a rewrite, it is linked on the main page, and is thus important but it has almost no good information. (And the industry parts are just weird, this isn't dwarf fortress).
  • We need to make page and proper description for Z-levels and how the various options work and things. No idea where to plug this in properly.
  • We need to research and/or add the last 2 seasons that are not on this wiki yet: autumn and winter.
  • We need to also include how monster and npc speed works on speed, and which, and if, exceptions there are for those on the rules written there. (prob a minor thing but needs some research).
  • Faction Camps needs various keys added (use the template:K), see the page comments (while editing) where keys need to be added). Various other parts are also missing, see comments.
  • Do a search for 'construction skill' and some variants of this, and try to find all the references to the old skill and replace it with correct references.
  • Hunting page has a link to a fishing reddit post, which could prob be added to the wiki and expanded upon. (We should either make a seperate fishing post, or just rename it into 'hunting and fishing').

  • Wet has no information on how the various types of mutation/trait wet protection work (the 3 variants are neutral, good, and ignored), and the various mutation pages do link to this page.
  • We need a page (or a place on a page) which talks about the map and how sight distance on that works. Character.cpp Character::overmap_sight_range has a lot of good info on that. (also shows how hight etc works, but some more code digging needs to be done to figure out this works in relation to buildings blocking sights etc.
  • Gameplay Mods has a subsection on forks, which I know little about, if we extend that section to something with more information, we could make a different page out of it, something like 'C:DDA forks/variants' and add it to the main menu.

Todo for 0.D release

  • Add the changelog to the correct 0.D (Danny) page.
  • Make a list of all the various guides, which release they are for (add this info to this page), and then go through all of them and update all the information. Also mark bad ones/unneeded ones with {{delete}}
  • Make a list of all the FAQ questions, and then go through all of them and update all the information.
  • Check the various obsolete and legacy files for items that no longer exist or have been renamed. Update the wiki accordingly.
  • The way long term hunger and thirst affects players was changed, update the hunger and thirst pages with the new info.
  • Pain values no longer show up as numbers, the pain page doesn't take this into account.
  • A small primer on how much pain goes away from each painkiller type would also be useful. See Pain#painkillers.
  • Bandaging of bodyparts has changed, and the wiki needs to be updated with this information. (There could be references to healing/bandaging everywhere, so might be a bit tricky to get all of these).
  • Add the NPC survivor camp questline. We have almost nothing about this on the wiki, and the autonomous npc work
  • Second part of the NPC project, check the generic Missions. Check which ones are still in the game etc.
  • Third part of the npc project, add the improved NPC dialogue support, group commands, tactical instructions and backstories.
  • Document the peeking improvements (the throwing of grenades around corners). Bonus points for example images/gifs.
  • Explosives have changed. We need a quick pass around all the explosive pages to see if no information is outdated (also check the turrets which can explode, but atm don't do much damage), and somebody needs to write a bigger guide on explosives, and how they work now. (for example bomb fragments are not mentioned at all).
  • The world map has a few new options that need to be documented, the various systems of scouting etc (like binocs, the mutations) will need to be better documented here as well.
  • All those new trees, scrubs and other plants need to be documented. (also see Forest, shrubs, Underbrush, etc). A guide to foraging food would be good, but secondary to just having some basic info, stuff you can get from it, the season etc.
  • Write guides/pages on:
    • auto-pulp
    • autopickup
    • batch actions
  • Carrying racks for small vehicles. (Don't think the Vehicles page talks about this). -- mlangsdorf
    • Also smacked around the Vehicles page a bit, and Engines a lot, but there's still more to do.
  • Dynamic Lighting, guide is needed, esp 'when can you hide in darkness' might help.

  • A Skill Training Encyclopedia - 0.D - Needs some minor reformatting, and some wikified links.
  • A Basic Forging Guide - Unknown - Needs to be updated
  • Guide: Lab Challenge - 0.C - Needs work, esp the various new rooms/lab ends.
  • Archer Guide - Unknown - No longer up to date, needs to be updated - 'Archery been completely rebalanced since this guide was written; recipes and the hierarchy of weapons are no longer as presented.'
  • Beginner Character Build Tips - 0.6 - Needs to be updated - and somebody unlisted it. The guide still seems useful, so should be put back into the guides list.
  • How to survive your first day: Dynamic Spawn Mode - Unknown version - Seems to be talking about the old dynamic spawn system, not the new hordes system. Should prob be rewritten by somebody with experience with hordes in 0.D.
  • Savegame Editing - guide still works

Todo for 0.E release

  • Continue updating the mutations and monster pages to the new info that splits between auto generated information and wiki added information. - Soy (yeah, I was doing this in nov 2018, and I just have to continue doing it). Update problems are the brown chick (151 - 154), waterfowl chicks (156 - 157), irradiated wanderer (60-63), coyote (234 - 235), Fox (262 - 263), and Squirrel (282 - 283) pages. There also is an autonomous drone (160) (prob a base monster, which others are based on). Another issue, bear page has disambg message on top, will need to be included in scripts - Fixed by black bear rename, made disambg page. Wolf has the same problem. (Btw, I know im updating this for 0.D atm, but if I fix the list of monsters so they no longer run on the old system, I can then update the script for any new additions 0.E made (if any) and any new monsters, one step at a time, if I try to do everything at once it fails).
