Bleeding

A bleeding wound will cause the wounded body part to continually lose hit points, while leaving a bloody trail behind. If the bleeding body part is the torso or head, you might eventually die from it.

The enemy most often encountered with the ability to cause this type of wound is the common bear and wolf (check the item browser on the enemies page and look for the ones with the BLEED flag, since 0.D (Danny) the IMPALE tag also causes bleeding).

A bleeding bodypart is red in the interface, and shows up in the @ player info screen as 'Bleeding (body part)' usually accompanied by some pain.

As of 0.F (Frank), bleeding goes up in stages depending on the extent of the damage, and losing too much blood when bleeding can also lead to stages of hypovolemic shock, the stages of bleeding are:

  • Minor Bleeding (very little effect, but can still cause minor blood loss if left unattended too often)
  • Bleeding (first stage to cause effects on the player's stats and starts sapping the body part's HP)
  • Bad Bleeding (Causes heavier blood loss and faster HP loss)
  • Heavy Bleeding (Graver bleeding and HP loss)
  • Heavy Arterial Bleeding (Deadliest bleeding, unlikely to survive without a tourniquet)

Monsters can also bleed, and will lose health as they bleed, so try and use one or a few bullets to inflict heavy arterial bleeding and then finish them off with melee, or simply bleed them out easier with a Machete, Kukri or Katana.

You can stop a bleeding wound in several ways:

  • first aid kit: Stops the bleeding automatically (before 0.D Danny)
  • bandage: Stops the bleeding automatically
  • hemostatic powder: Stops the bleeding automatically
  • rag: Has a chance of stopping the bleeding; returns a blood soaked rag
  • cotton balls: Has a chance of stopping the bleeding
  • Cauterize with a soldering iron, hotplate, or both a knife (any kind) and lighter: Stops the bleeding automatically, at the cost of a steep rise in pain level.
  • Put pressure on the wound by waiting with no weapon in hand, this prevents any further damage while doing so, as long as the player is patient enough to wait a little to stop the bleeding.
  • If the bleeding is on a limb, out on a tourniquet to prevent blood loss, it is especially needed for heavy arterial bleeding.
