A large machine found at the bottom of some science labs that uses "Carbon Vapor Deposition" to diamond-coat cutting weapons, using an amount of hydrogen canisters and coal/charcoal proportional to the weapon's volume.

Specifically:

  • Requires 5 hydrogen canisters and 25 coal/charcoal per 0.25L of the weapon's volume.
  • Only weapons that deal at least one point of cutting damage can be diamond-coated.
  • A diamond-coated weapon's cutting damage is increased by a factor of 1.5 (needs testing). Other damage types are unaffected.

Usage

One tile of the CVD machine is the "control panel". Upon examining this tile, a prompt will list any available weapons eligible to be diamond-coated, and the selected weapon will be diamond-coated if sufficient hydrogen canisters and coal/charcoal are available. The control panel is visually indistinguishable from the rest of the machine, so check each tile with x to locate it. The amount of materials required to coat each weapon is not displayed, so find it manually based on the weapon's volume.

Notes

  • Weapons with near-zero volume, such as a dive knife, can be diamond-coated without consuming any resources.
  • Many knives, spears, etc deal only piercing damage rather than cutting, and thus cannot be diamond-coated. Make sure the weapon you are trying to diamond-coat actually deals cutting damage.
  • Certain weapons, such as Bionic Claws, cannot be diamond-coated despite dealing cutting damage.
  • A diamond-coated weapon will appear as "diamond [weapon]" and have the text "* This item has a diamond coating improving it's (sic) cutting damage".
  • While Lab journal-Gustav mentions the CVD machine, it is no longer required to use it.
