Tetanus is a fairly rare but long lasting and debilitating disease acquired from cutting yourself on broken windows (1/256), metal wreckage, and bear traps(1/128). (chances are multiplied by 4 if you are disease resistant, which reduces the chance of getting tetanus).
While you have tetanus, you will suffer -4 to Dexterity, and be knocked down & stunned by painful muscle spasms about once or twice every hour. Muscle relaxants such as diazepam can suppress the symptoms for a couple of hours, but the only ways to remove it permanently are to consume antibiotics (33% chance to cure it) or royal jelly. It can also be cured with the blood filter CBM.
This disease does not show up on the character screen.
