Professions allow you to start a new character with more gear than usual, themed around a given profession or personality type. The more or more useful items they give you the more points they will cost, while some professions will hinder your character in some way, giving you points instead.

The default profession is "Survivor", which will give your character the default gear you might be familiar with from previous versions.
