The Northrup Emancipator is the first and only automated tank ever produced, made shortly after the split-up of Northrup Grumman. Clad in depleted uranium plating, and armed with advanced munitions and a 120-mm gun, it is capable of delivering extraordinary firepower.

This creature is a tank sized robot. It's a competent fighter with extremely high hit points. It's as fast as you, clumsy, has extremely high armor against bashing weapons and extremely high armor against cutting ones (that includes bullets). Its special ability allows it to engage you with either its tazer, flamethrower, machine gun, grenade launcher or main cannon, every 3 turns.

It has extremely high morale and it's totally aggressive. Being a robot, it's afraid of nothing in particular, and can be angered by nothing in particular.

It can see, has a reduced vision range (10 tiles less than normal), can hear noises, is able to track noises particularly well, has no distinguishable head (it's unaffected by head shots), can bash destroyable objects in its way (like doors), destroys anything in its way (like walls), attacks any creature in its way, doesn't breathe (it's not affected by smoke, toxic gases, drowning, etc), can be damaged by EMP blasts and become friendly, can use special attacks even on friendly creatures, and nothing else.

Being made of steel, it's vulnerable to electricity.

When it dies, it breaks (so, it can now be disassembled).

Visual reference

Looking like this, only smaller, and with the 3 crew members replaced by robotics and computer systems.

Notes

Pretty much the strongest monster in the game. Not necessarily the most dangerous, as it can be easy to avoid.

Will use a variety of attacks that depend on distance (the first one that applies is used):

  • 50% of Tazer if adjacent
  • Flamethrower if 5 or less
  • M4A1 rifle if 20 or less
  • 40mm frag grenade if 30 or less
  • Rocket between ranges 35 and 50 if you're huge (as in, mutated to be huge), in a vehicle or if it's hacked to be on your side

It's not vulnerable to fire (not even raging fire), but its armor doesn't stand a chance against rifle caliber ammo. It can't see in the darkness and has no sense of smell. If you can outrun it while staying in the darkness, you can destroy it even with relatively light firearms.

Alternatively, one or two LAW rockets will do the job if you've some practice with launchers, folks have been known to use the optical cloak or cloak CBM and hack it to death with a sword, and just ramming it with a large vehicle (pickup/flatbed truck, minimum) works at 70 MPH and above. (High speed helps confuse its targeting routines, so if you're in a vehicle, go as fast as you can.)

TheFlame52 ran some weapon tests against tank drones and discussed the results on the forum

Ammo counts

A tank drone does not have unlimited ammo for all weapons. It comes with:

  • 40 120mm shells
  • 100 Grenades
  • 1000 Rifle rounds
  • Unlimited flamethrower and tazer rounds.
