A blackened and twisted naked human body, strips of flesh hang from its body, and it emits a constant haze of thick black smoke.

This creature is a human sized ZOMBIE, HUMAN. It's a competent fighter with moderate hit points. It's a bit faster than you, agile, has no armor against bashing weapons and no armor against cutting ones (that includes bullets). Has moderate armor against fire. Its special ability allows it to bite you, and sometimes bite you nastily, every 5 turns; perform a special scratch attack, every 15 turns.

It has extremely high morale and it's totally aggressive. Being a ZOMBIE, HUMAN, it's afraid of ZOMBIE, HUMAN, and can be angered by ZOMBIE, HUMAN.

It can see, can hear noises, is able to smell characters, stumbles around, is warm blooded (it appears in infrared), can bash destroyable objects in its way (like doors), gets help from surrounding monsters when bashing objects, is poisonous to eat (produces tainted meat when butchered), is very hard to shoot at (some hits are treated as misses), doesn't breathe (it's not affected by smoke, toxic gases, drowning, etc), resuscitates after a few hours (unless its corpse is either smashed to a pulp or butchered), can produce bones and sinews when butchered, can push creatures out of its way, and nothing else.

Being made of flesh, it's vulnerable to nothing in particular.

When it dies, it creates an explosion of smoke.

(View - Edit Notes )Notes

Smokers are designed to be a pain to ranged fighters: even when you can see them through their smoke, they're very tough to actually shoot. Either a filter mask or gas mask should be enough to completely protect you from smoke inhalation so you can walk up and smack it. If you want to kill it without smoke protection, a well-placed dynamite or grenade can kill it too, be careful though as the explosion is likely to attract more zombies to you.

Bear in mind that neither the Smoker nor its fellow zeds can see through its smoke (and the smoke blocks scent, too) so you might consider leaving them alive for their value as cover.

When stunned, such as with a tazer and some martial arts Smokers will briefly stop producing smoke, in fresh air, this is useful to see better and limit smoke inhalation when melee attacking these monsters.
